Bio:
Jason Whelan was born very young in St. John's Newfoundland in
1973.
From an early age he was surrounded by a variety of music. Starting
with guitar, leading to drums and again guitar, he branched out on
numerous instruments. He has been described as one of the best proponents
of new style Irish bouzouki playing in Canada, an instrument he has
embraced since spending time playing in Ireland. He also plays other
string instruments including bass guitar, mandolin, as well as tinkering
with keyboard parts.
Playing professionally since he was 16, he has 20 yrs experience in
performing locally, nationally and internationally. He has lived in
Ireland and Bermuda and has travelled extensively. Over the years, his
role has moved between performer, composer, engineer and producer of
recording projects. He has worked on or produced some 30 or more
CD projects and is often called on as a session player for other
artists. He has been a member of or performed with Connemara, Roger
Howse, The Punters, as well as Pamela Morgan, The Plankerdown Band, The
Fish Doctors and others.
He divides his time between his first love music, and his 12 year
career in IT/Telecommunications where he holds the coveted Cisco CCIE
designation, and acts as senior IP consultant where he builds enterprise
data and voice networks for local and international companies. When he's
not plugging in a guitar cable, he's probably lighting up some fiber
optic cable somewhere.
